Examples of why friction is useful? You need friction to walk across surfaces and the brakes in a bike need friction to work.
Non contact forces work at a ……. Distance like gravity or electrostatic forces and magnetic force.
The amount something stretches by is called? An extension.
The object will change speed quicker when… A particular force acting on the object is largely different in newtons than the other force.
What are force pairs called? Interaction pairs.
What are forces measured in? Newtons.
What are some examples of contact forces? Friction, Drag force (air and water resistance), support forces (e.g reaction forces.)
What are some examples of drag forces? Water and air resistance.
What can a force be? Push or pull.
What can forces be measured with? A newton metre.
What can friction be reduced by? By adding lubrication, e.g. oil or grease.
What do compressed particles in the floor do? They push back up to support you.
What do forces always occur in? They always occur in pairs.
What does hooke’s law state? That the extension of a spring doubles when you double in force.
What does this mean? That there is a linear relationship between force and extension.
What is a field in physics? A special region where certain objects experience a non contact force.
What is a support force called? A reaction force or the normal force. Upthrust is another example of a support force.
What is friction? It is a contact force that occurs when two objects move against eachother.
What is Mass? The amount of weight of stuff something is made of it is measure in kg. It is the same everywhere.
What is the gravitational field strength on Earth? 10N/Kg
What is weight? It is a force. And depends on the gravitational field.
What object can be stretched when pulled? A spring.
When do contact forces occur? When objects are touching.
When do we say an object is equilibrium? When the balanced forces cancel out.
When do we say forces are balanced? When forces acting on an object are the same size but act In opposite directions.
When do we say forces are unbalanced? When the forces are not the same size and they do not cancel each other out.
Why can drag forces be useful? If we need to slow something down for example by using a parachute making an object streamlined it will reduce the drag forces on it.
Why does friction happen? Because all surfaces have some roughness even ones that look smooth.
