1 What is a caesura? It is a dramatic pause or break in a line of poetry.
2 What is a Complex sentence? A sentence including an independent clause and a subordinate clause for example: Although it was raining, we went for a walk.
3 What is a Compound sentence? A sentence that connects two or more independent clause with a conjunction.
4 What is a conjunction? A conjunction connects two sentences together.
5 What is a Declarative sentence? A sentence that makes a statement, provides a piece of information or fact.
6 What is a Flashback? Going from the present back to the past so this could be referring back to the first stanza in a poem and basing the last one on that.
7 What is a metaphor? A metaphors is saying something is something for example: She was a shark.
8 What is a Noun? A noun is a person, place or thing.
9 What is a Preposition? A preposition tells you where something is for example: In or beside.
10 What is a pronoun? A pronoun is another word for a noun for example: He, She or they.
11 What is a simile? A simile compares something to something else for example: Her hair is like the sun.
12 What is a simple sentence? A sentence that includes a subject and noun to complete a thought.
13 What is a stanza? A stanza is a chunk of text or paragraph that separates the poem into different sections.
14 What is a Verb? A verb is a doing word for example: Running or Jumping.
15 What is an Adjective? An adjective is a word that describes a noun (describing word).
16 What is an Adverb? An adverb is an adjective that describes a verb.
17 What is an Exclamative sentence? A sentence with an exclamation mark at the end.
18 What is an imperative sentence? A sentence that gives a direct command, request or invitation.
19 What is an independent clause? A sentence that is fine on its own but can combined with others and added to for example I like cheese.
20 What is an interrogative sentence? A sentence that asks a question for example do you like cheese?
21 What is chronological narrative? Telling a story with the events in the exact order they happened in.

23 What is enjambment? Enjambment is when the lines do not finish in punctuation and flow into eachother.
24 What is first person narrative? Narrating in first person saying what happened to you and using the word I.
25 What is Flash forward? Going from the present to the future so in a poem the first stanza referring to the future of the poem.
26 What is Imagery? Imagery describes an image that the reader can picture in their heads because of how good you are describing it.
27 What is Juxtaposition? Juxtaposition is two things being placed together with contrasting effect.
28 What is Pathetic Fallacy? Pathetic Fallacy is describing something with human feelings for example the angry wind or smiling sun.
29 What is Personification? Personification is giving a non living thing human attributes for example: the trees whispered my name.
30 What is Repetition? Repetition is repeating a word or phrase multiple times to create a certain effect.
31 What is Rhyme? Rhyme is the repetition of the end of a group of word they are most commonly found at the end of lines in stanzas.
32 What is symbolism? Symbolism is the use of symbols to represent an idea or qualities.
33 What is third person narrative? It is when an outside speaker refers to characters as he, she or they.
